How to Clean the Platform of a UV Flatbed Printer

In UV printing, maintaining a clean platform is crucial for ensuring high-quality prints. There are two main types of platforms found in UV printers: glass platforms and metal vacuum suction platforms. Cleaning glass platforms is relatively simpler and is becoming less common due to the limited types of printing materials that can be used on them. Here, we will explore how to effectively clean both types of platforms.

Cleaning Glass Platforms:

  1. Spray anhydrous alcohol on the surface of the glass and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. Wipe off the residual ink from the surface using a non-woven fabric.
  3. If the ink has hardened over time and is difficult to remove, consider spraying hydrogen peroxide on the area before wiping.

Cleaning Metal Vacuum Suction Platforms:

  1. Apply anhydrous ethanol to the surface of the metal platform and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Use a scraper to gently remove the cured UV ink from the surface, moving slowly in one direction.
  3. If the ink proves stubborn, spray alcohol again and allow it to sit for a longer period.
  4. Essential tools for this task include disposable gloves, a scraper, alcohol, non-woven fabric, and other necessary implements.

It is important to note that when scraping, you should do so gently and consistently in the same direction. Vigorous or back-and-forth scraping can permanently damage the metal platform, reducing its smoothness and potentially affecting print quality. For those who do not print on soft materials and do not require a vacuum suction platform, applying a protective film to the surface can be beneficial. This film can be easily removed and replaced after some time.

Cleaning Frequency:
It is advisable to clean the platform daily, or at least once a month. Delaying this maintenance can increase the workload and risk scratching the surface of the UV flatbed printer, which could compromise the quality of future prints.

By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your UV printer operates efficiently, maintaining the quality and longevity of both the machine and your printed products.
